THE SUPREMACY OF GOD

The Supremacy of God (Psalm 62:11)

Democracy was founded on the rule of the majority. The concept of checks and balances are important in this type of government. The president has powers and can decide his programs, but not without the approval of the congress. No one has supreme powers. The president can decide to overrule (or veto) the congress but the congress can also decide to counter-overrule the president. In a working democracy, any president who wants to have things done must know how to woo congress. It’s always a marriage of inconvenience. A naughty congress can make life extremely difficult for a president. They can even impeach the president if they agree to do so. Congress is often disunited because there are at least two political divides working at opposite directions, all claiming to like the voters. But, do they really? They are mostly suspected to be interested in maneuvering their ways into re-election.

In God’s kingdom, there is no democracy. The President is supreme. When He speaks once, we hear twice. Power belongs to Him. His laws need not pass through any group for vetting; there is no congress. There is the President and there are others. He calls the shots. He decides what to do and that’s it. The only opposition was cast out of heaven thousands of years ago. In this kingdom, opposition will not be tolerated. You are either in or you are out. You oppose the President to your peril. You dislike His laws to your downfall. You don’t even need to speak before you are detected. Intelligence officers are not needed. God knows your thoughts 24/7. He is just, but He leaves room for repentance. He decides whom to promote and whom to bring down. God is supreme; period. He decided that David would be king of Israel and a million Sauls could not change it, even with the entire military might of Israel.

Imagine what life would have been if God were subjected to the approval of some congress. Then, He could not just decide to bless you since this would be vetted by congress. They would need to check when last He blessed you and why He would not bless others who are waiting before coming back to bless you again. His blessings would need to be shared according to the rule of law; or, no: they would need to be shared according to the decision of congress, so whomever congress favors would be entitled to blessing and those who did not vote for them at election time may have to wait many years. Isaac would not have been so blessed in Gerar because he was even a stranger. Joseph could not have been promoted from prisoner to prime minister; that would have been an abomination! How could a convict (who hadn’t even finished serving his sentence) become a leader of a civilized nation? His name would never have made it to the ballot for primaries!

Aren’t you glad that there is no democracy with God? Or, how else would all things have been possible with Him? Haven’t you noticed that some people don’t like you, either because of your disposition to issues or because they know that you are a Christian? How would they ever vote for you to be blessed? You wouldn’t be occupying the position you are now if God’s kingdom were a democracy. You wouldn’t be driving that car or living in that house or married to that man or woman. You would be denied bearing children; who are you! You would need to go and bribe some people at home or you are finished. You would need to sing the praises of some people even if you know that they are doing the wrong things. Your conscience would be dead because you would speak the truth to your own peril. Ha, I cannot stop thanking God for His supremacy. How would we have survived without it? It’s because of His supremacy that His decision to bless you this week is final, and, though the devil breaks his head against the wall, he is not able to change it.
Remain blessed and have a great week in Jesus’ name!
GOD BLESS NIGERIA!
