South West Lawmakers Turns Down MACBAN's Request On Amotekun

South West Nigeria lawmakers has turned down request of  Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to participate in the operations of the South West regional security network, Amotekun.

It was gathered that the Lawmakers of all South Western states comprising of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo Houses of Assembly has concluded gazette on the bill after the public hearings without making any input to give Herdsmen association a space for hearing.

Curruently, the Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed the bill, even though a meeting of speakers of the respective Houses held in Ibadan on Thursday to harmonize the positions of the respective states.

The necessity of the harmonization arose from different public hearings held across the states to get inputs from  different stakeholders and citizens which may be important to making the Bill worthwhile.

During one of the public hearings organised by the Oyo State House of Assembly, MACBAN expressed its support for the establishment of the security outfit, but proposed that it should have its members participate in the Amotekun corps.

A former chairman of the association in Oyo State, Yaqub Bello, who spoke on behalf of MACBAN at the public hearing by the Oyo State House of Assembly, had expressed the support of the association to the Amotekun initiative, noting that only haters of truth would oppose the initiative.

“Some of us have been in Oyo State for over 40 years, cohabiting with the natives, married Yoruba women and have children,” Mr Bello.
