Doctors, numbering 30 sacked by Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi displayed their sack letters on Wednesday, as they called on the state Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom to intervene in their matter.
While speaking with newsmen, the President of the Association of Resident Doctors said about 32 of their members were sacked by the management of BSUTH.
She claimed the sack was not in accordance with the law regulating Residency Training in Nigeria.
She dispelled the statement of the hospital management who said they had not domesticated the Residency Training law in the hospital, hence were took their actions based on the hospital policy.
The President said, "The Medical Residency Training Act (MRTA) was passed by the National Assembly in 2017. A year later, it was signed into law by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari.
"The Act regulates Residency Training in institutions anywhere in Nigeria and Benue State University Teaching Hospital is in Nigeria and ought to abide by the law".
She called on the Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom to intervene in the matter so as to avert looming crisis in the health sector of the state.
"We are, again, appealing to the amiable Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Dr. Samuel Ortom and all other well-meaning sons and daughters of Benue State to prevail on the management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital to obey the law, in order to avert a crisis in the health sector of the state."
Efforts to get access to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Terrumun Swende proved abortive.
